About

You found it…the web page all about me. Well, not everything about me…just a snippet. It’s true…I have been a writer, editor, and educator. I also have a passion for photography as you’ll see in the photo section of my portfolio. I’ve been the director for two career and technical student organizations, a yearbook sponsor, a tech director for a community theatre, and even a producer and actor for audio dramas.

That’s all fine and good…and it’s a broad stroke highlighting what I have DONE and continue to DO…but you’re probably asking, but “What about YOU? Who are you? What makes you unique? What are your dreams, goals and aspirations?”

All very good questions. Each one could elicit a dissertation-length response as dry as the Sahara.

I suppose that first and foremost, I consider myself a servant leader. I have always felt a natural desire to serve others, to ensure that other’s needs, whether personally or professionally, are met or exceeded; that through our interaction, they can walk away having grown as individuals in a positive way. I truly believe that if you take care of the people around you — whether they are family, colleagues, or friends — by modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, enabling others to act, and encouraging the heart – they will take care of you (and/or your business or organization!).

As for dreams, goals and aspirations, I am one of those people that really didn’t find “the one thing” that I really wanted to be. Instead, I followed my passions, talents, and took advantage of opportunities as they presented themselves. Over time, I found that I have the ability to adapt to change, learn new skills, and was willing to take calculated risks for some new adventure.

Yes, I had the training and skills suitable for any number of communications occupations. My first jobs were as editors of newspapers and magazines, but I soon found myself in a situation where I was asked to be a teacher (at teacher!). I quickly discovered that I had aptitude for that as well. Yes, compared to the newsroom, education was a scary new world, but it was a new frontier — and a challenge that begged to be taken head on.

Teaching eventually led me to an opportunity that was presented to me not once, but twice. I was offered the opportunity to take over the reins of a non-profit organization for students. The first time it was presented, I didn’t feel I was ready to give up teaching in the classroom, but I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity again three years later, and I’m glad the opportunity came knocking at my door a second time. In this role, I was able to focus and refine my leadership skills, my view of servant leadership and finally realize that perhaps I wasn’t meant to do just one thing, but rather, to boldly go where new challenges were presented.

Today, I’m back in the classroom, working with students developing multimedia projects ranging from 2D and 3D animations, to Photoshopped artworks and mock magazine covers and movie posters. The drive to communicate through a variety of media still runs strong!

So, please, enjoy your journey through a few samples of my work.
